Game Description

In Catan, players compete for control of the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. Resources like wood, stone, grain, sheep, and clay are essential for completing these constructions. Each turn, players roll dice to determine which areas produce resources. Players with settlements or cities adjacent to these areas receive the corresponding resources.

Players can trade with each other to acquire the necessary resources, creating plenty of interaction and strategic decisions. Additionally, they can play knight cards to move the robber and hinder other players. The first player to reach 10 victory points by building settlements, cities, the longest road, and other strategic cards wins the game.

Gameplay

In Catan, players build their empire by collecting resources and trading strategically. The game proceeds as follows:

  • Each player begins with two settlements and accompanying roads on the board. The location of these settlements determines which resources they can collect early in the game.
  • Each turn, players roll two dice. The sum of the roll determines which areas produce resources. Players with settlements or cities adjacent to these areas collect the resources.
  • Players can trade with other players or the bank to exchange resources and execute their plans.
  • Players build settlements, cities, and roads to earn victory points. Building cities provides additional resources and brings players closer to victory.
  • In addition to building, players can purchase special development cards that offer extra advantages, such as moving the robber or gaining victory points.
  • The game ends when a player reaches 10 victory points.
